Our Name
A Symbol of Growth
Derived from Greek, Diospyros means “divine fruit” or “fruit of the gods.”
The genus includes ebony, Macassar ebony, and American persimmon—remarkable species that connect our name to our origins in fine craftsmanship. The persimmon inspired our logo.
For Diospyros Capital, the name embodies disciplined selection, enduring quality, natural growth, and the patience required for value to mature.
Our Founder
Frank Pollaro is the founder of Diospyros Capital and Pollaro Custom Furniture, the company he established in 1988 and built into one of the world’s most respected makers of bespoke furniture. Pollaro specializes in extraordinarily complex, zero-tolerance furniture for a global billionaire clientele, creating one-of-a-kind pieces for significant residences and superyachts. His work has also taken him around the world sourcing exceptionally rare woods and materials, developing a deep understanding of specialized supply chains, scarcity, provenance, and quality.
Over nearly four decades, Frank has built businesses, managed teams, developed highly skilled talent, and solved demanding manufacturing and engineering challenges. From 2012 to 2016, he also managed the turnaround of the vineyard at Château Miraval in Provence, gaining direct experience transforming and operating a business outside his core industry.
Through Diospyros, Frank brings this combination of entrepreneurial, operational, manufacturing, and turnaround experience to early-stage investing, backing exceptional founders in technology, advanced manufacturing, defense, and other industries where innovation, disciplined execution, and long-term thinking matter.
